HappyMag (“we”, “us”, “HappyMag”) runs happymag.co.za and processes personal information in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA) and other applicable South African law.

Who we are

HappyMag sells personalised photo magnets and related gift products in South Africa. For privacy questions or to exercise your rights, email hello@happymag.co.za.

Information we collect

• Account details: name, email address, and password (stored as a secure hash).
• Orders and delivery: shipping address, contact phone, delivery instructions, and optional order notes.
• Personalisation content: photos, crops, labels, and custom text you submit for made-to-order items.
• Payment: we do not store full card numbers. PayFast processes payments and may share limited payment metadata (such as last four digits and card type) with us for order records and refunds.
• Technical data: session cookies to keep you signed in, cart data in your browser (and in your account when signed in), and standard server logs.
• Location (optional): if you use address search, Google Maps may process address queries according to Google's privacy policy.

How we use your information

• Create and manage your account.
• Process orders, payments, delivery, and customer support.
• Print and fulfil personalised products using the content you provide.
• Send transactional emails (order confirmations, shipping updates) via our email provider.
• Prevent fraud, secure the site, and comply with legal obligations.
• Improve our shop and fix errors (using aggregated or anonymised data where possible).

Legal bases (POPIA)

We process personal information when necessary to perform a contract with you (fulfilling your order), when you consent (for example optional marketing if we offer it), when required by law, or when we have a legitimate interest that is not overridden by your rights (such as securing our services).

Sharing with service providers

We share data only as needed to run the shop, including with:

• PayFast (payments)
• Our email delivery provider (transactional messages)
• Hosting and infrastructure providers that store our database and files
• Google (Maps address lookup, when you use it)

We do not sell your personal information.

Photos and custom content

You must have the right to use any photos or text you upload. We use your uploads only to produce and deliver your order, troubleshoot quality issues, and keep records tied to that order. Do not upload unlawful, harmful, or third-party content without permission.

Retention

We keep account and order information for as long as needed to provide the service, handle warranties and disputes, and meet tax and accounting requirements. You may request deletion of your account where we are not required to retain data.

Security

We use technical and organisational measures appropriate to an online store (encrypted connections, access controls, hashed passwords). No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure.

Cookies and local storage

We use an essential session cookie to maintain your sign-in state. Your browser may store cart and photo crop data locally to improve the shopping experience. You can clear site data in your browser settings; doing so may sign you out or empty your cart.

Your rights

Under POPIA you may request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information we hold about you, object to certain processing, and lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator (South Africa). Contact us at hello@happymag.co.za and we will respond within a reasonable time.

Children

Our shop is intended for adults placing orders. If you believe a child has given us personal information without appropriate consent, contact us so we can delete it.

Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top shows when it last changed. Continued use of the site after changes means you accept the updated policy where permitted by law.
